How about we settle this once and for all?

Which version is best?

Please make your decision on the merits of the performances only, and not the fact that Lennon/McCartney wrote the song. The song was written FOR the Stones, so it doesn't have that trademark "sweet" sound of the early Beatles. I prefer the Stones version! (gasp)

Of course, both versions are great, but one slightly edges out the other. Keith sounds like he is channeling Robert Johnson or somebody like that, but plugged in. AWESOME GUITAR NOISE!!!!

Beatles - I wanna be your man

Rolling Stones - I wanna be your man

I don't care for the song, or the Beatles, but I have to say the Beatles in answer to your question.

BEATLES

Of those two, I would vote for the Rolling Stones.

Would it be sacrilege to suggest that I preferred the Suzi Quatro version to either of them?

I do like both versions. The Stones did have a much grittier sound that especially came out when doing very bluesy songs like that - and you're right about Keith's guitar in this version.

Not a great effort by either band. I would vote for the Beatles' vocals and the Stones for the music.

The Stones. The sound from their version is more appealing.
