Time for an old car! DEAD AIR regulars know all about my enduring love of old cars, and this cherry-red Chrysler Plymouth parked next to the Peace Center in downtown Greenville, absolutely made me swoon. (As always, you can click to enlarge.) Any guesses on the year? I am guessing 1952. The license plate on the front says "Southern First"--which is a local bank.
Obviously, that license plate proves you have to be a well-paid banker to afford a car like this.

Some people are having issues finding the radio show's new location... it comes in best on 910 AM here in upstate South Carolina. We are on every weekday from 5-6pm on WOLI, the Source. Drive-time radio! Live at Five! Hope you will tune in. If you miss us, we are also on Spreaker.
I didn't do a proper obit of movie critic Roger Ebert (whom I admired) here on the blog, but I did do one on Occupy the Microphone last Thursday.
And speaking of our show, we interviewed Cynthia McKinney on Monday and Dr Margaret Flowers today. This was our second time talking to Dr Flowers; she was on the show last April as well. (You can also listen to her regularly on Clearing the Fog radio.)
Tomorrow we will be re-interviewing Efia Nwangaza, Greenville Occupier, radical lawyer and tireless activist (our March interview with Efia is here), about her recent trip to Switzerland to lobby the UN Human Rights Committee on behalf of US political prisoners, including the Angola 3. (Efia was also on the Daisy Deadhead show last year, see graphic below!) We will be taking phone calls and questions.

On Friday, we will be interviewing Jill Stein, 2012 Green Party candidate for president. (Last year's interview with Dr Stein is here.)
Give us a listen, and we sincerely hope you are having a good week.

Happy Halloween!
At left, Samhain Productions welcomes you to their haunted house in downtown Greenville.
~*~
I participated in a Samhain circle/celebration on Saturday evening, which was quite wonderful. I was so thrilled to be invited.
Below, selected Halloween posts of the past.
Halloween Horror movie thread! Don't go to sleep! (2007) Commenters contributed their favorite horror movies.
Halloween Horror movie thread II (2008) Contains several great horror movie trailers... and unbelievably, most are still intact! Includes the fabulous Dementia 13, The Brood, and others...
Happy Halloween! (2009)-- Photos of the DOGS FOR AUTISM Halloween benefit, which included a doggie costume party!
And finally, HERE is my account of once attending a local Christian-themed "Judgement House"--which is an 'approved' fundamentalist-Christian-version of a Halloween "haunted house." As I wrote, it was unexpectedly professional and very well-done.
But such a let-down at the end... is heaven really that bad? ;)
Happy Halloween to everybody--have a great holiday!

Wordless Wednesday: Conquering old fears
I walked over a bridge that had always looked particularly narrow and unnerving, the Academy Street bridge in Greenville, SC.
When I got to the mid-point, wasn't nearly as scary as I had thought it was. I have photos to prove I did it. (Otherwise, I wouldn't even believe me.)
Goodness, what was I so afraid of? That was nothing. :)

It's not just for Vulcans anymore
The first one came from none other than George Takei! Suitably, you might have to be a trekkie to get it.
The second one came from (I think!) Yellowdog Granny.
Happy Wordless Wednesday!

City Information

Yes, I haz it!
Today is the mass internet-blackout and log-off in protest of monstrous, evil SOPA, which I previously wrote about in depth here. I haven't changed my mind since! STOP SOPA!
We are being asked to limit our overall online activity today, if possible, in protest of this repressive attempt to control internet discourse.
Although I do thank you all profusely for stopping by! Have a lovely Wordless Wednesday.

Wordless Wednesday: Greer Opry House
This is the legendary local Greer Opry House in downtown Greer, South Carolina. I took these back in October and forgot all about posting them--my apologies.
And a splendid time is guaranteed for all!

Wordless Wednesday: Lamb's Bread
Interior of Lamb's Bread vegan restaurant in Columbia. They have all kinds of amazing African statues, artwork and sculptures. Entering the establishment is like entering another world.
They make a fabulous vegan Reuben sandwich, to die for. The restaurant is one of the great hidden treasures of our State Capitol; if you are in town, check them out.

If Disney did a horror movie, might look like this
Left: Victoria's birthday party; she is the one in yellow who looks just like me.
My granddaughter turned six on September 11. I certainly DO wish her birthday was NOT a national day of mourning. To my daughter's credit (that's her in the photo), she has always tried to make her birthdays happy. I don't think Victoria will become self-conscious about the date until she is older, and maybe not even then.
As one commenter on a blog recently said to me: If we let them take our happiness, they have indeed been successful in totally destroying the day. I agree.
Meanwhile, my granddaughter is SIX whole years old! I will be seeing them next week for the first time in over a year, and I am very excited.
And don't these partiers look a little scary? ;)

Wordless Wednesday: Charleston is purty
Here are some random photos of my quickie Saturday trip to Charleston; I couldn't readily remember the last time I was there. We endured ungodly temperatures by 11am, and I just wilted slowly, the rest of the day... but I still remembered to tell everybody about the radio show!
Accordingly, starting off with Spanish moss, which mostly disappears by the time you get to Columbia, so we don't have any in the upstate. Boo. :( I love it!
And we were also lucky enough to have a historian in our midst, who educated us about MARYVILLE (see historic landmark), which I am shocked to discover does not even rate its own Wikipedia page. I did find one reference to Mary Mathews Just (for whom the village was named) in her famous son's obituary. Maryville was a black township founded in 1885, which had its charter revoked, poof. No town for you! (You didn't think they were going to let freed slaves do that during Jim Crow, did you?) I would like to read a historic account of the events leading up to this amazing, radically white-supermacist act (I smell kkk), but it is difficult (impossible) to find one not peppered with racist excuses. What really happened? Will we ever know?
Maryville is not even mentioned in Charleston's Wikipedia entry.
Emanuel A.M.E. church in the Maryville neighborhood, stands where the historic marker is now, and was founded in 1885.
The last photo is the interior of The Mellow Mushroom, pizza to die for throughout the southeast! (commercial) I've been to them all over, from Athens to Asheville, and no two restaurants look the same.
You can click to enlarge. Have a great Wednesday!

Wordless Wednesday assortment
Some assorted photos for this busy Wednesday. Hope you enjoy these!
First photo: This was taken in the MORNING... good Lord, is it really that hot already?
Second photo: a section of my beloved Swamp Rabbit Trail, which restoreth my soul.
The next three photos are from Linky Stone park, downtown under the bridge: two of the children's garden and one of the stone pig. Not surprisingly, the pig is probably more popular than the garden!
Brick Street Cafe, good local place for a snack; backs right up to Reedy River Park and Swamp Rabbit Trail.
The final two photos are from Bele Chere, including the window of the Yarn Emporium (I loved the yarn mermaid) and a sign from KentuckyFriedForests.com. Take action!
As always, you can click to enlarge. Have a great day!
