Wordless Wednesday: Bike race

Happy Wordless Wednesday... and thanks to everyone who sent me a sympathetic email about my broken bone. YALL ARE THE BEST AND I LOVE YOU!!! (((snifff)))

Below, the St Francis Hospital bike race at Fall for Greenville, last month. As I said in that post, took me three laps before I understood that these fellas are as fast as The Flash, and I had to start clicking before the first one passes. As it was, I kept getting only the bikers at the end... the second picture is the last three bikers!

This doesn't bode well for a future in sports photography, don't think.

If you are here for Wordless Wednesday, hope you will hang around, enjoy yourself and come back!

It's amazing how fast people can go on a bike with the right bike and the right training! You really captured the speed and movement.

You will very rarely catch a scene like this with all of the players in sharp focus, so don't frustrate yourself trying. Just accept that some of them are going to be blurred. And truthfully, the blur actually adds to a sports photo -- especially one that moves as fast as this. You want motion, speed, power, all that testosterone-induced stuff.

Sports photography is a different skill set from other types. But what you've already learned is that the key to it is anticipating what's going to happen.

I don't know what kind of documentation you got with your camera (or what kind of camera you have) but the owners manual is usually full of tips for different shooting situations. You might also check Amazon or your bookstore of choice to see if there's a Magic Lantern Guide for your particular camera. I have one of these for all of my cameras, and also for some of my accessories (like flashes).

Ewwwwww....very cool. Although I do think that would kill me.

Hey Daisy cat I just set a world record for the longest post ever containing awards.

http://shinade.blogspot.com/2008/11/award-time-catching-up-and-passing-out.html

And if you scrolllllllllll way down to the bottom you will find something special for you and your mommy.

And it's completely hassle free!!

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone!
Happy day:-))))

Hi Daisy! I'm so sorry to hear you broke your leg (at least it wasn't a hip!!). What did you do? Are you on crutches? But more importantly, did you get good pain meds??? lol

Nice action shot. At least you can make out what you're shooting. :)

I like the sun in the 2nd shot. I can't do action shots at all - that's why our WW is a still shot!

That is just dizzifying! I am not a cyclist--never had the coordination--but I have always admired the skill and grace of those who are. Great shot.

Sports are REALLY hard to shoot. The blur here adds a great sense of movement though.

I'm sorry about your break. My kid broke his arm yesterday, so lots of empathetic broken bone vibes coming your way.

I'd be happy if I could take a picture of people standing still that turned out that well.

don't worry too much... i think they can go as fast as 40km/h, so it's quite difficult to capture them if you're not prepared... besides, i think the blurred images reinforces the impression of a high-speed scenario...
