I hope you're having a great weekend!

This is a great map. Maps are so interesting not only for what they reveal, but also that maps distort. One way or another as we become accustomed to using maps we learn that we have to be careful about distortions. (Around Pittsburgh some streets are too steep to be actual streets so sections are staircases which plays havoc with GPS systems.)

Something I wondered about this map is it seems that Edgefield is put in the Interstate section instead of Jesusland. After some thinking if I were making the map I'd do the same. What made me pause is seeing "Dangerous Maniacs" and wanting to extend that south into Edgefield.

Charleston is a hugely important city for understanding American culture. So I wondered about a list of cities, not necessarily the "major" cities but a list to understand the USA in a thumbnail.

Quickly came up with 8: Boston, New York, Washington DC, Charleston, Chicago, New Orleans, San Fransisco and Los Angeles. That leaves a lot out of the picture, but what I found is that adding 2 more to the list didn't improve things. I could double the list to 16 and that list seemed to make some kind of sense, but a top ten didn't do it for me.

The short version of it is in my opinion Charleston is a rare American City.

I like the way Charleston annexes other cities and areas.

Danggit! Can't someone make one of these for Louisiana, too! I'm fairly jealous, Daisy! ;)
