It was the third of June, another sleepy, dusty Delta day...

It's June third, so today at Dead Air, we celebrate one of the greatest songs a southern woman ever wrote in the history of the world, amen.

I couldn't decide which version to use. Bobbie Gentry was so beautiful, I was thinking yall might get distracted from the story. So, I chose two versions, pick the one you like.

The first is the studio version of the record with no video, the second is the lovely Gentry on Britain's TOP OF THE POPS.

Bobbie Gentry - Ode to Billie Joe

Never cared much for the song, but I remember watching the movie w/ Robbie somethingorother, back in the 70's.

I love this song.

INHO, the movie was less than satisfying---there's no way the thing Billy Joe threw off the Tallahatchie bridge was some"dumb ole" doll.

Thanks for this second version, Daisy. Bobbie Gentry would've made a helluva good actress in films; the way she performs that song is simply haunting...
